Stay ahead and discover what’s new in the world of technology, components, and modules.

Foreword

Technology moves fast, but the real challenge is understanding which developments can improve a design, simplify integration or create new possibilities.

In this edition, we highlight technologies ranging from 5G RedCap and multi-protocol wireless to motion control, industrial connectivity, HMI and antenna measurement.

At TOP-electronics, we look beyond the individual component and focus on how technologies fit into the complete design, from performance and integration to long-term availability.

Next week, many of these technologies can be seen live at WoTS 2026 in Utrecht and embedded world North America in Anaheim.

We hope this newsletter gives you useful technical insight, and we look forward to meeting many of you next week.

Zephyr RTOS support simplifies development on latest Apollo SoCs

Ambiq has expanded Zephyr RTOS support to its Apollo330 Plus and Apollo510 Lite SoCs, making it easier for embedded developers to reuse familiar workflows and reduce migration effort.

Combined with Ambiq’s ultra-low-power SPOT platform and HELIA AI ecosystem, the update strengthens the software foundation for energy-efficient edge AI applications.

Four wireless protocols into one module

Quectel’s KGM133S and KGM133S-P combine Matter 1.4, Thread 1.4, Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth LE 6.0 in one compact MCU module.

Based on an Arm Cortex-M33 up to 78 MHz, they offer 256 KB SRAM, up to 3.5 MB Flash and flexible antenna options

With mesh support and an operating range from -40 to +105 °C, they provide a versatile platform for smart-home, building and low-power IoT designs.

5G RedCap brought to industrial IoT

Eagle Wireless’ I5255C family brings 5G RedCap to industrial IoT applications that need 5G connectivity without the bandwidth and device complexity of conventional high-performance 5G.

Based on 3GPP Release 17, the modules support 5G Sub-6 GHz SA and LTE Cat 4, with theoretical peak rates up to 223 Mbps downlink and 123 Mbps uplink.

Optional multi-constellation GNSS and interfaces including USB 2.0, PCIe 2.0, UART, SGMII and SPI provide flexible integration into connected industrial equipment.

Connectivity for demanding industrial designs

MaxLinear’s new MxL8323x family extends RS-485/RS-422 connectivity for demanding industrial designs, with data rates from 500 kbps to 50 Mbps.

The half-duplex transceivers support 3.0–5.5 V supplies, 1.65–5.5 V logic, up to 256 bus nodes and -40 to +125 °C operation. Robust ESD/EFT protection and a ±15 V common-mode range help maintain reliable communication in electrically noisy environments.

GNSS, RTK, LTE and LoRa in one positioning platform

Quectel’s QLM290P integrates quad-band, multi-constellation GNSS with RTK, global LTE and LoRa in one smart antenna platform.

It supports L1, L2, L5 and E6 signals and can provide real-time centimetre-level positioning via LTE corrections.

LoRa enables short-range base-to-rover communication where cellular coverage is unavailable.

Full 3D antenna measurement system

MegiQ is expanding its successful Radiation Measurement System (RMS) with a new 2-axis rotation system for measuring full 3D spherical antenna radiation patterns.

The new system adds elevation rotation to the existing RMS setup, enabling automated measurements over both azimuth and elevation. Full 3D radiation patterns can be measured at 5-degree intervals in as little as 3 minutes, depending on the signal bandwidth.

Visitors to WoTS  will be among the first to see this launch.

1.8" Portable Smart Knob Module

TSD’s portable Smart Knob combines a 1.8” 466 × 466 AMOLED display with an STM32U5F9 MCU in a compact 69 × 21.5 mm design.

It features 36-step tactile rotary feedback, Bluetooth, NFC, USB-C and magnetic wireless charging.

The 800 mAh battery provides up to 15 days standby or 8 hours continuous operation, creating a flexible HMI for smart and connected applications.

Stepper Controller Board - Atlas Control Step 1 & Step 3

Ideal for compact CNC, XYZ gantries, robotics or lab automation. Smart current scaling, fault reporting and modular expansion headers.

Shared features Step 1 & Step 3
• Designed for 2 phase bipolar stepper motors
• Adjustable current control (<2.5 A peak per phase)
• Input: 9-24 V (Step 1) 24-48 V (Step 3)
• Build-in current decay and smart current management
